KILKENNY LIMESTONE VASE

Kilkenny limestone is not a typical limestone, in fact it goes quite dark when polished. The surface is full of fossils, mostly paler coloured crinoids. I select the stone carefully for these vessels, and this is a nice piece. The ribbed edge is reminiscent of Brancusi perhaps although I was thinking more of African vessels when I made this. It was also inspired by looking at some wooden Kava bowls from Fiji. There is a lot of work in this. Kilkenny stone is hard, and challenging. This is a good thing though, it guarantees longevity. This will hopefully be handed down for centuries. Contact me for delivery costs if you are unable to visit the workshop to collect this. This is very heavy as the walls are quite thick. It must be around 15kg.
